- Jason Davis

It's Monday morning, and that means a new American Soccer Show is out. Jared and I got together to talk USMNT, Grant Wahl and a few other topics, while we also manage to squeeze in my interview with Real Salt Lake architect Garth Lagerwey.

We open with the National Team talk. There's plenty to cover, including the overall performance of the team, the importance of the result, and the individual showings put on in Nashville. We hit on new additions like Chandler and Agudelo, and address Landon Donovan's apparent spring rust.

After the break is my interview with Garth Lagerwey. In addition to talking about the Champions League and Real Salt Lake's amazing ability to succeed on multiple fronts, we cover the recent "controversy" over the club's decision to retire Jason Kreis' number nine jersey. While the idea of retiring a number, especially that number, is odd for soccer fans, Lagerwey has strong ideas on why things can - and perhaps should - be different in America. Garth and I also have a back and forth on the teams getting national TV run. You might be surprised which side each of us take.

When Jared and I come back, we touch on a few more USMNT topics before moving on to a post-mortem of Grant Wahl's FIFA presidential campaign. With no nomination, this is the end of the Sports Illustrated writer's run to be the head of world soccer, and while it's disappointing no federation would step up to back him, it crystallizes the closed nature of the community that he was turned down.

We close with an email, one that is equal parts soccer comment and confounding admonishment.
