Maurice Edu told Rangers manager Walter Smith that there is talent in them thar Yanks; with the USA set to face Brazil tonight at the New Meadowlands, Rangers second-in-charge Ally McCoist will be in New Jersey to scout the possibilities.
Specifically mentioned are Alejandro Bedoya and Benny Feilhaber. Feilhaber is definitely available with Aarhus having dropped down to the Danish second division; Benny mentioned interest from an unnamed Spanish club when he spoke to the press in New Jersey yesterday. Rangers might be nice landing spot for him, if only as a guaranteed step up in competition.
Bedoya, younger than Feilhaber by a few years and still developing his game in Sweden, might not be quite due for a move. I've heard nothing about Örebro looking to sell him, but if Rangers came along with a good offer, I doubt the Swedish club would turn it down.
Tonight's match might mean little in the grand scheme of the US program, but with several players still looking for clubs or with the possibility of moves looming, it takes on a slightly more intriguing dimension. Bradley undoubtedly knows about McCoist's mission, a fact that might help Feilhaber (likely to play anyway, but you never know) and Bedoya enough time on the field to impress the Rangers' No. 2.
If somehow both Feilhaber and Bedoya land at Rangers, I will challenge everyone to come up with a "Fulhamerica" style nickname for the club.
