According to Steven Goff's Twitter feed, Charlie Davies was involved in a car accident on the GW Parkway near Washington today. Goff's indicated that Davies is in surgery, though his injuries are not life threatening. There was a fatality involved in the crash.
I'll do my best to stay on top of this and relate whatever I hear.
The following links go to stories involving a crash this morning on the GW Parkway; this is the only crash I can find reference to, but it HAS NOT been confirmed as the crash Davies was in. Updates as they become available.
The local ABC station reports that an accident took place on the GW Parkway at 3 AM this morning.

*UPDATE 3:20 PM ET-Grant Wahl is now reporting that no other USMNT players were in the vehicle.
*UPDATE 3:27 PM ET-Beau Dure of USA Today is confirming that the accident reported int he links above is the crash in question.
*UPDATE 3:45 PM ET-Goff has more, including a statement from a US Soccer official that described the injuries as "possibly" career-threatening.
*UPDATE 4:12 PM ET-Twitter has exploded with messages of thoughts and prays for Davies and those involved, and Grant Wahl is reporting that Davis will be in surgery for another half an hour.

*UPDATE 4:30 PM ET-NBC Washington has a story on Davies and the crash, and includes photos of the vehicle. I think it's safe to say that Charlie is lucky to be alive.
*UPDATE 4:45 PM ET-Grant Wahl is reporting that the USSF has withdrawn their statement that Davies' injuries are "possibly" career-threatening, citing lack of information.
*UPDATE 5:02 PM ET - Grant Wahl is reporting that Davies' father, brother and sister are en route to the hospital. Still no word if Charlie is out of surgery.
*UPDATE 5:14 PM ET - From Steven Goff (Washington Post): Awaiting more details on Charlie Davies. Early indication is broken leg and internal injuries.
*UPDATE 6:07 PM ET (delay due to my commute)-Davies is out of surgery according to Grant Wahl, and ESPN is reporting that he was not the driver of the vehicle, per police statements to USSF.
*UPDATE 6:39 PM ET-Local news report on Davies and the accident:
*UPDATE 7:06 PM ET-AP is reporting that Davies is listed in serious condition after emerging from surgery. Per Wikipedia, "serious" is defined as "Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable."
*UPDATE 7:48 PM ET-Goff echoes the report that Davies is out of surgery and in serious condition, with the added note that the team did indeed have a curfew last night. The implication then is that Davies broke curfew. More details will come after 9 PM ET, when Davies' family is set to arrive from California.
*UPDATE 9:09 PM ET-Still waiting for a fuller update on Davies' injuries. Meanwhile, Steven Goff has a story on the situation, which will be in tomorrow's first run edition of the Washington Post.
*UPDATE 9:55 PM ET-Official word on Davies' injuries from Steven Goff: Tibia and femur fractures in right leg. Also lacerated bladder, facial fractures and elbow fracture. More, from several soccer journalists, including Beau Dure of USA Today: Davies will be in the hospital for at least week, and his injuries will require 6-12 months of recovery plus rehab. Titanium rods have been placed in Davies' legs, and he will require further surgery on his elbow and face.
*UPDATE 10:02 PM ET-A comprehensive update from Goff, which includes encouraging words from the doctor: "Due to Charlie's fitness level, his prognosis for recovery and his ability to resume high-level competition is substantially improved."

US fans attending the match at RFK tomorrow are planning to salute Davies during the 9th minute of the match. The Shin Guardian suggests a standing ovation for the entire duration of the minute.
