Charlie Davies remains in serious but stable condition this morning following surgery for injuries sustained in Tuesday's early morning car accident. Davies' family is with him at Washington Hospital Center, where he is recovering.
With the 6-12 month recovery time and rehabilitation that Davies' will face, he is certain to miss next year's World Cup in South Africa.
The United States will be confronting difficult task tonight at RFK Stadium as they attempt to finish their 2010 qualifying campaign on a high note against Costa Rica. Emotions will be high. Fans attending the match are planning several tribute to Davies, including a 9th minute standing ovation, raising Davies' number "9" in the air, a setting off smoke bombs.
Steven Goff has an update, including a statement by Davies' French club, Sochaux, as well as a statement by the Park Police (who are responsible for the George Washington Parkway) that the crash investigation could take one or two weeks.
If you're attending the game, the number cards are being distributed through a .pdf file making its way around Twitter. Well-wishers are also encouraged to send emails to charliedavies9@yahoo.com, which will be printing and taken to Davies.
Finally, Davies banners are in the works, including this one.
