- Jason Davis
If only soccer had a 007. Jared and I hit just three topics this week, topics that require a significant investment of time an energy to cover properly.
First up, after we cover my superhuman ability to avoid getting a nickname, is Bob Bradley's Gold Cup roster. It wasn't necessarily what we expected from Bob, so Jared and I go down the full list giving our thumbs up or down on every choice. Bradley took some understandable risks while others are shockingly odd. Freddy Adu?
It's worth noting that at the time of the recording, Alejandro Bedoya had yet to be added to the team in place of Feilhaber (as of this posting, US Soccer says Feilhaber is still being evaluated). Both Jared and I guess that Teal Bunbury would be added due to a lack of strikers on the squad. Oops.
Segment two starts with a shift in focus on the Gold Cup. Bradley has made his bed with his roster, and we agree that his job should be on the line based on American performance in the tournament. If Bob wants to coach outside of the box a bit in his second tour of duty, that's great; he'll just have to succeed while doing it.
From there, we move into the FIFA morass. Allegations of bribery are flying at an insane rate, the story is continually moving, and there's a chance massive fallout is on its way. Much has happened since recording, but the discussion is still a worthwhile listen (it was pre Warner "tsunami" and the subsequent response).
We close with a few MLS thoughts from a goal-happy Saturday. The leaders are being dragged back to the pack, and Gold Cup absences won't help.
