Soccerway is reporting that Schalke and potential USMNT midfielder Jermaine Jones will sit out the remainder of 2009 in an effort to recover from a troublesome shin injury. Jones has looked close to a return to the pitch on several occasions over the past few months, only to face a setback each time.
With the German Bundesliga season on break from December 19th until January 16th, Jones will not suit up for Schalke until the second half of January at the earliest.
Jones continues to figure in the plans of the US National Team (at least in the minds of the fan) despite his out of action for most of 2009. Jones talent is undeniable, and when healthy he could certainly help the Americans; but as more and more time passes without his US debut, his ability to work into the setup successfully ahead of the World Cup in June begins to come into question.
Is it panic time over Jones and his inclusion in the US team for next year, or is this just another delay that won't adversely affect his ability to contribute?
