The US bid for the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 now has a web presence at GoUSABid.com, a website dedicated to the effort launched by the bid committee on Tuesday.

The site looks to drum up support for another American World Cup through pleas for visitors to sign a petition (which earns you a free sticker proclaiming "The Game is in US" (an obvious play on words and the overarching tagline for the site), spread the word via email, and share their personal stories of passion for the sport. A donation to the bid also comes with a sticker (one sticker for a $3.00 donation).

The site is well-designed (though the color scheme leaves me cold), includes a "community" aspect that plays up the burgeoning nature of soccer in the US, and even incorporates American soccer history without overly relying on the success of the 1994 USA World Cup. The interactive American soccer timeline is a particularly interesting feature.

The quality of the site and the video trailer created to push the bid make it obvious that some significant money is being pumped into the campaign. With just a little less than a year and a half to go before the hosting bids are awarded, this is the first real effort by the committee to spread the word on the bid via the internet.

The common belief is that the US is unlikely to receive the 2018 bid, as there are several other strong candidates who have gone longer without hosting the tournament (England is the "favorite).

A decision on both locations will be made by FIFA in December.

What do you make of the website? Is it a strong enough effort?
