Jermaine Jones showed up at the USMNT training session today in Amsterdam, to meet the players and talk to Head Coach Bob Bradley.

Before we go any further, please calm down.

Jones was not there to train, nor has he made a return to the training pitch with Schalke. He has yet to play a minute of soccer in the Bundesliga season, and last kicked a ball in a competitive match almost nine months ago.

Simply for perspective on how long it's been since Jones played, and the setbacks he's faced since getting the hairline fracture in his shin, keep in mind that the original prognosis for his return was in weeks, not months.

Jones would probably start for the USMNT if healthy. He's a proven player from a top quality league, something the United States is generally lacking. I would be ecstatic to see Jones healthy and in form in time for the World Cup.

Forgive me if I can't get excited, however. It's nice of Jones to stop by the session, and I'm sure that Bradley appreciated the opportunity to hear from the horse's mouth where the midfielder is in his rehab. But as with Charlie Davies, I'm not going to pin any of my hopes on a player that has to do so much in so little time. The World Cup is 100 days away, and with the roster needing to be solidified and together in time for the send off series at the end of May, I have almost no expectation that Jones will be there.

Jones exists; he's not just some fairy tale told to USMNT fans to drive up their excitement all the while striving them along because he is never healthy. For me though, there's still nothing to see here.
